Fotographiska Museum based at Telliskivi Creative City in Tallinn is an internationally recognised museum of photography and a great meeting point to enjoy art, food, music and design. To complement all of this, they have just opened a new restaurant with a zero-waste mindset and serving traditional Estonian cuisine.
The first Fotografiska opened in Stockholm in 2010. After Tallinn, the museum will visit New York and London. The concept of the Fotografiska Tallinn Photography Museum includes an exhibition and event area, a café, a restaurant and a fine-art photography shop.
The restaurant’s ethos is ‘from leaf to root, from nose to tail’ using as much fresh local produce as possible, whether that includes the food menu or in mixing cocktails behind the bar.
A massive 600 cultural events take place annually in the district with a flea market every Saturday. Inside, visitors can enjoy the Club of Different Rooms, Theatre Vaba Lava and the theatre Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava.
The industrial complex is completely self-funded (no public funds are contributed) and the area has been completely rejuvenated, attracting a diverse crowd including youths, eccentric artists, hipsters and designers. As an independent, founder Jaanus Juss has complete control over which businesses set up shop in the complex to fulfil the ethos and successful future of the project.
